Happy Friday! You made it through another week! That deserves a beer. And in honour of this achievement we’ve all made, I decided to start a new series. On Fridays (most Fridays) I’ll make a craft beer recommendation based on some of my favourite beers. Now, I don’t claim to be a beer expert. I know what I like, and I want to share that with you.
First up: Disturber Double IPA by Big Rig Brewery. I first came across this brew (virtually) while listening to the Go Sens Beercast. Side note: If you’re a hockey fan who also likes beer, you should give this podcast a listen. Hockey + Craft Beer = Heaven.
After listening to the hosts try Disturber Double IPA, and rave about how great it was, I knew I needed to get my hands on some. For those of you who don’t know, I love IPAs and I love Big Rig Brewery. So naturally, my ears perked up just a little bit.
So last weekend, I made a trip out to Big Rig’s Kanata location to pick up some Disturber. The can alone had me immediately intrigued. The skull logo made me feel as though I should have been driving a Harley Davidson home, which I certainly was not.
As someone who loves IPA, I am a firm believer in the more bitter, the better. With an IBU rating of 100, I knew I was in for something special! I would normally say that if you aren’t into bitter beers, this may not be for you. But Disturber balances its higher bitter level with some malt tones, and isn’t nearly as overwhelming as you might think. Of course, if you love bitter, hoppy IPAs, it will certainly not disappoint.
Disturber also has an 8.5% ABV, so it is pretty high in alcohol percentage, and should be approached with caution. It’s an easy beer to sip slowly and enjoy, but it goes down quite well.
If you’re a hophead like me, or you’re just looking for more depth to your beer, I highly recommend picking up some Disturber Double IPA. It was on limited release when I picked it up, so you may need to hurry in order to get it in time. You can find it at Big Rig’s Kanata location at 103 Schneider Rd.
Enjoy!
