We all have bucket list vacations. You know the ones. Those places you’ve waited your whole life to visit. Well for me, that place is Vancouver.
Last fall, I was able to check this city off my bucket list. During a road trip through British Columbia, Vancouver was one of the highlights on my schedule. And of course, craft beer was one of the first to-do list items during my time there.
First up, Granville Island Brewing. One of the most well-known breweries in Canada, and for good reason. Located (shockingly) on Vancouver’s Granville Island, the brewery is a staple in the Canadian craft beer scene.
There’s no shortage of great restaurants in the surrounding area, but the brewery also serves a variety of great food. Both locals and tourists know why this is such a well known spot, because the place was packed.
After sampling a flight of beer, trying everything from the IPA to the Stout, it’s easy to see why Granville Island has such a great reputation. The beer is great, the atmosphere is electric and the neighbourhood is beautiful. And if you want to take some beer home, they have a full retail store attached to the brew pub!
Much like the rest of the province, Vancouver loves its craft beer. So there are plenty of pubs that specialize in such. One of which is the Morrissey Pub. I absolutely loved the atmosphere there: Traditional Irish pub decor, featuring old chandeliers, dim lighting and medieval statues.
But what really stood out to me was the craft beer selection. If you want a taste of what the Vancouver area has to offer in terms of beer, this is a great place to start. The staff is also very knowledgable about beer, and can recommend basically anything based on your preferences. If you are the type of person who likes to live dangerously and let others pick their beer for them, this is the place for you.
My trip to Vancouver allowed me to check another item off my bucket list. And in the process, I was also able to try so many great beers from local breweries.
