Craft Beer Recommendation: Bogie West Coast American IPA

Ok, I know it’s been a while, and you’ve probably missed your weekly recommendations. So I apologize for keeping you on the edge of your seat. But I promise I’m back with your weekly craft beer recommendation! This week: Bogie West Coast American IPA by Calabogie Brewing Company.

If you live in Ottawa, you may have seen Calabogie Brewing Co. beer around town. Whether at Craft Beer Market or the Wellington Gastro Pub, there are a number of places to find beer from this Ottawa-Valley brewery throughout the city. And there is good reason for that; it’s pretty damn good.

You’ve probably noticed by now that I am a hophead. I like IPAs very much. So it should come as no surprise that my favourite beer from Calabogie is their Bogie West Coast American IPA. It’s smooth and refreshing (IBU = 60), with a very strong hop bitterness featuring notes of citrus and pine. At 5.5% ABV, it’s a relatively low alcohol IPA, meaning you can enjoy a couple without feeling too woozy. For IPA lovers, and those looking to try something a little more flavourful, this is the perfect beer to kick off your weekend.

Now, the important part: Where can you find this delicious brew? As previously mentioned, there are a number of restaurants in the area that have Calabogie Brewing Co. beer on tap. You just might have to call and find out whether or not they carry the Bogie IPA.

Of course, you can always make the drive up to Calabogie Brewing Co. Coming from the city, it should only take you about 45 minutes. And as we approach the winter months, you could even make a day of it by driving a little further down the road to Calabogie Peaks Ski Resort. You might even want to try some of the other beers they have available at the brewery.

So start your weekend with something bitter and refreshing. It’s been a long week, you deserve it!
