BC Beer Trip: Victoria’s Craft Beer Scene

I recently had the privilege of driving across half of our great nation. From Edmonton to Tofino, I saw some of the most beautiful places in this country, and possibly on earth. And the best part of all of this? I was able to try a variety of craft beer. Over the next few posts, I’ll tell you more about some of the cities I stopped in, and what they had to offer in craft beer.

Victoria, BC

The capital of British Columbia is by far one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. From historic architecture to beautiful costal views, Victoria has more than its fair share of beauty to offer. And of course, it has some great beer!

Just outside of the downtown core, you will find Moon Under Water Brewery & Pub. From its factory exterior, it was difficult to guess what exactly to expect inside. But once you walk through the doors, you’re greeted by a warm and friendly environment.

Patrons of all different types can be seen at Moon Under Water. Whether they are typing away on their laptops, or meeting with a group of friends, the brew pub caters to many different environmental needs. Oh, the beer and food are pretty great as well.

The beer list offers something for any beer taste. Whether you’re looking for a traditional lager, IPA, stout or wheat beer, you can find it here. They also have a comprehensive menu of pub fare, offering everything from fish tacos to nachos.

Next time you head to Victoria, make sure to add Moon Under Water Brewery & Pub to your must-see list.

And of course, there is no shortage of places to try beer from all over the province. Victoria is very fond of its local brews, so a number of pubs and restaurants serve almost exclusively local beer.

During my stay downtown, I came across an establishment called Garrick’s Head Pub. Shortly after sitting down at the bar, I realized this was no ordinary pub. Garrick’s Head offers more than 50 unique beers, almost all of which are brewed in British Columbia.

The bartenders are very knowledgeable, and can recommend specific beers to suit any taste. If you’re looking to try as many BC beers as possible, a stop at Garrick’s Head is an absolute must.

Victoria has so much to offer, and this is just a short summary of the beer stops I made during my time there. Stay tuned for more on Tofino, Vancouver and Kelowna.
